In case you haven’t heard, Game of Thrones is a little show on HBO that has literally the whole world talking. Its eighth and final season has just hit screens and will finally reveal who will take the throne once the show comes to an end.
For years, audiences have been introduced to many characters. Due to the unique setting, we hardly see these actors and actresses in their normal clothes. You’ll be amazed at just how glamorous these celebrities look in real life. Let’s take a look…
Van Houten (Melisandre of Asshai)
Here we can see how the Dutch actress transforms into her iconic character with red shining hair. In real like, Van Houten is a brunette, but it doesn’t stop her from looking great on and off screen.
Carice Van Houten used one of the many wigs that are on the set. In total, there are around 30 different headpieces to capture the unique style of the show. Apparently, her wig cost more than $7,000!
Kit Harington (Jon Snow)
Unlike the women in Game of Thrones, men aren’t exposed to the same amount of demands for hair and makeup. Here, we can see Kit Harington show off his real hair and it looks just as magical as when he’s playing Jon Snow on our screen.
Jon Snow has been a fan favorite character since the show began. Soon, audiences will finally be able to know the fate of Snow and his place in the Westeros. What do you think will happen?
Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell)
This charming British actress joined the race to the throne in season two and has left an impression ever since. Described as ‘another malicious, calculating character’, Dormer has taken much delight in her performance over the years.
Here, we can see how in real life she is far from the character she plays on TV. With a glamorous outfit and stylish hairdo, we can see just how beautiful she is. Let’s hope she’s friendlier than her TV counterpart!
Nell Tiger Free (Princess Myrcella Baratheon)
Talk about broken-hearted fans: audiences everywhere mourned the death of this princess when she was untimely killed off the show. Nell Tiger Free is an English actress who has recently released a musical album.
In real life, she looks more like a normal girl you would expect to see at Coachella. Free used to date co-star Dean Charles Chapman until they broke up – perhaps that’s why she was written off? We may never know the truth.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister)
Coster-Waldau may play a kingslayer on the show, but in real life he also looks like a hero. With a Danish background, he brings a unique and unconventional look and feel to the Lannister character.
For years, fans have been swooning over him as he goes around and kills dragons all in the name of Westeros. Let’s see if he is finally punished for pushing Bran Stark out a window in the very first episode.
Sibel Kekilli (Shae)
German actress Sibel Kekilli appeared in the first season of Game of Thrones and has since become a regular face throughout the show. As Shae, Kekilli portrays a mysterious lover to Tyrion Lannister.
What attracted the actress to this character is the strong portrayal of women – something that can’t always be so easy to find. In real life, Sibel Kekilli looks just as wonderful as her character counterpart. It seems she doesn’t need much makeup to look beautiful!
Indira Varma (Ellaria Sand)
Indira Varma joined Game of Thrones in the fourth season, with the original intention to be just a recurring character. Following audience adoration for the character and story, Varma was bumped up and became a series regular from the fifth season onwards.
In real life, Indira Varma looks slightly different from her character, but we can still see the resemblance. The British actress has also appeared in shows like Paranoid, which can be found on Netflix.
Esme Bianco (Ros)
It turns out that Ros was only supposed to appear in the first episode of Game of Thrones, but that quickly changed once fans got a look at her. Esme Bianco was 29 years old when she was cast as the fiery redhead, escaping a life as a burlesque dancer.
In the HBO show, her character works hard to rise up in a position of power within the King’s Landing Brothel. She has some interesting perspectives: “No matter where any of the characters think they’ve gotten… there’s always somebody that’s willing to beat them down”.
Jack Gleeson (Joffrey Baratheon)
Is there a character more ‘hated’ than Joffrey? For four seasons, Jack Gleeson wowed audiences with his amazing performance as the bastard child of the Lannisters. In real life, these two look pretty similar – except Gleeson is likely smiling a bit more.
Since bowing out of Game of Thrones, Jack Gleeson has remained off the camera and focuses today on stage acting. The Irish actor can be seen touring around Britain. Do you miss him from the show?
Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy)
You may know actress Gemma Whelan as the woman dragged away in chains through the King’s landing, but there’s far more to her. Aside from her role as Yara Greyjoy, Whelan is also a seasoned comedian, jazz and tap dancer, and singer.
Game of Thrones is just one aspect of her life and she totally rocks other aspects, too. Yara entered the show in the second season as a recurring character but quickly became a regular.
Diana Rigg (Olenna Tyrell)
This classic actress has been acting since 1965, but younger audiences will recognize Diana Rigg as Olenna Tyrell. As well as her role on Game of Thrones, Rigg is a seasoned stage actress who often performs Shakespeare when not wowing us on screen.
Also known as The Queen of Thorns, fans will most likely remember her character best for the end of season six. Outside the HBO show, fans can enjoy Rigg’s other acting ventures which keep in the same vein as her television character.
Hannah Murray (Gilly)
British audiences might remember Hannah Murray from her time as Cassie in the UK teen drama Skins. Since then, the actress has developed into a woman and now portrays Gilly, one of Craster’s daughters.
Murray is expected to appear in the final season of Game of Thronesas we find out what finally happens and how it all ends for her and her character. After the show, the actress is likely to continue modeling and acting on screen.
Rory McCann (Sandor Clegane)
In Game of Thrones, Sandor Clegane has a scarred face with long, greasy hair. Thankfully, Rory McCann looks nothing like his TV counterpart. The Scottish actor keeps his hair short and beard under control.
Aside from a slight break in season five, Sandor Clegane has appeared in every season of Game of Thrones. As the show comes to an end, we will find out what happens to him. How do you think it will all end for the younger Clegane?
Rose Leslie (Ygritte)
Actress Rose Leslie joined the cast of Game of Thrones in season two. In true Hollywood fashion, she met co-star Kit Harrington and the two immediately fell in love. They ended up marrying, making fans squeal with excitement every time they see these two.
Outside of the HBO hit, Leslie has also starred in the CBS drama The Good Fight. Here we can see how glamorous she looks compared to her onscreen character. Are you excited to see the end of the show?
Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark)
In the same way that we mention Sophie and Maisie, we’ve seen Isaac Hempstead Wright literally grow up in front of our eyes. While he may play Bran Stark on screen, off screen Wright is growing into quite the handsome man.
We expect Isaac to have a great career once Game of Thrones comes to an end. Outside of his role on the HBO show, he has also lent his voice to a minor character in Family Guy.
Hannah John Kamen (Ornela)
This English actress plays a part in the Dosh Khaleen and takes quite a liking to Daenerys Targaryen. Hannah John Kamen only appeared in two episodes of Game of Thrones but fans immediately remembered her for her impressive performance.
Since then, the actress has gone on to appear in the Star Wars franchise and the Netflix series Black Mirror. In real life, we can see just how stunning this actress is. We can’t wait to see what else she has planned for us.
Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister)
As one of the bravest and wisest characters on the show, Peter Dinklage has delivered some of the best lines in its history. Before taking on the role of Tyrion Lannister, Dinklage was no stranger to cinema, appearing in many films and TV shows.
In real life, he doesn’t look too different – he just keeps his beard in check! Peter Dinklage is one of the rare American actors on the show. Many of the other cast members are British.
Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark)
This natural blonde won hearts and minds when she made her television debut as Sansa Stark. For eight seasons, she has been one of the most pivotal players in the Game of Thrones universe.
Many don’t know that Turner gave up a career in being a ballerina to be a movie star – we think it paid off! The 22-year-old recently married Joe Jonas and appears in the X-Men films as Jean Grey. We think she looks absolutely amazing as her natural self.
Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen)
Emilia Clarke has been a consistent character across the eight seasons of the show, appearing as early as the first season. Clarke first appeared alongside Jason Momoa who has since gone on to play Aquaman on the big screen.
In real life, we can see Emilia Clarke without her famous wig to reveal her flowing brown hair. Recently, Clarke has headed her own franchises, staring in films like Tomb Raider and Terminator: Genisys.
Natalia Tena (Osha)
Natalia Tena was only supposed to appear as Osha for one episode. However, her natural charm and charisma kept audiences captivated and she was invited back more and more. Over time, Osha became a famous character all the way up until the fourth season.
Outside of Game of Thrones, Tena can be seen in classic films like About a Boy and in small roles in the Harry Potter series. We love Tena’s natural red hair free from the show’s hair and makeup restrictions!
Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo)
He may be fronting one of the biggest superhero franchises today, but Jason Momoa got his start as the physical Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. As we can see, hair and makeup didn’t need to work that hard to make him look imposing! Simply add a little eye shadow!
Recently, Momoa shaved off his iconic beard to raise awareness for cancer, and he looks about 10 years younger. The native Hawaiian was only on the show for its first two seasons, but couldn’t help leave an impression among viewers.
Kerry Ingram (Princess Shireen Baratheon)
Kerry Ingram is just one of the many actors who has come and gone over the years on Game of Thrones. She appeared in seasons 3-5 before her death.
At the time, fans went into an uproar at how unfair it was, but we suppose that’s the nature of the show! In real life, Ingram has been continuing to perform in London. She recently won the Laurence Olivier Award for her role as the titular character in Matilda.
Mark Addy (Robert Baratheon)
Eager fans will recognize Robert Baratheon as a character from season 1. Portrayed by Mark Addy, the grumpy, bearded character looks far worse than the actor who plays him! The British actor has been around the block in British films, appearing in The Full Montyand A Knight’s Tale.
We definitely think that the shirts and jeans look is better than the usual Game of Thrones attire. Even though he’s no longer in the show, we sure remember him for his fantastic British performance.
Faye Marsay (Waif)
Faye Marsay only appeared in two seasons of the hit television series, but that didn’t stop her from making quite an impression on fans. In real life, Marsay looks more glamorous with a shiny of natural beauty compared to her television counterpart.
Over time, fans started taking the show (and her character) incredibly seriously, which led her to delete her social media accounts in 2016. She can be next seen in upcoming television projects in the future.
Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy)
Eager pop culture fans may know that Alfie Allen is the younger brother of pop sensation Lily Allen. Thankfully, he looks a lot better in real life than he does in the show. And definitely not as traumatized!
Originally from London, Allen has portrayed Theron Greyjoy across all eight seasons of the show. How do you think it will end for the character? Either way, we think things are just getting started for this 32-year-old actor.
Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister)
One of the most iconic roles on Game of Thrones belongs to Lena Headey and her portrayal of Cersei Lannister. During her time on the HBO show, Headey has been nominated for four Primetime Emmy awards and a Golden Globe.
She’s one of the few characters who has made it all the way to the final season – and are you surprised? The character has been an iconic and valuable asset to the story for the last seven seasons. We can’t wait to see how it all ends for this Lannister.
Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane)
This Norwegian actor couldn’t be more different from Tormund in real life. They may share the bears, but Kristofer Hivju is far more groomed and polished than his TV counterpart. Hivju graduated from the Russian Academy of Theater Arts and joined the HBO show in season three.
This year, we will finally find out what happens to Tormund when the show comes to its end. We can’t wait to see what happens to this Free Folk character once the curtains fall for the last time.
Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark)
This Irish actress has appeared in many top movies, including the wildly successful Harry Potter franchise. Before appearing as Catelyn Stark, Michelle Fairley could be recognized as Hermione Granger’s mother. Today, she replaced Jennifer Ehle to play the character and has wowed audiences ever since.
According to sources, producers wanted her for the role after they saw her performance as Lady Macbeth on stage. We wonder how it’s all going to end for this one once the show finishes?
Conleth Hill (Varys)
Perhaps one of the biggest changes between these two is the amount of hair on their heads! In real life, Conleth Hill has a whole head of silver hair that he keeps while he’s not filming. This impressive character is sometimes called The Spider due to his powers.
Outside of Game of Thrones, Conleth Hill is a seasoned British actor and a winner of the Laurence Olivier award for his skills on stage. What do you think will happen to the Spider?
Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)
Maisie Williams was only 14 years of age when she joined Game of Thrones as Arya Stark. Today, the 22-year-old is gearing up for the final season and we will finally see what happens to her and her character.
When she’s not working on the HBO show, Williams can be seen hanging out with her co-star and best friend Sophie Turner. In fact, Maisie Williams was a bridesmaid at Turner’s wedding to Joe Jonas last year. We’re sure Maisie Williams has a whole career ahead of her once the show finishes.
Harry Lloyd (Viserys Targaryen)
Viserys Targaryen may have only appeared in the first few episodes, but it didn’t stop Harry Lloyd from leaving an impression on viewers. Before his untimely death, Lloyd played a prince who was a little down on his luck.
Outside of the show, Lloyd has swapped his blonde wig for natural brown hair that he keeps short and groomed well. Outside of Game of Thrones, the actor has appeared in The Theory of Everything and Counterpart.
Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth)
Gwendoline Christie is a British actress and model who won fans with her amazing performance in Game of Thrones as Brienne of Tarth. Amazingly, this actress is a whopping 6”3 in height, making her taller than 96% of the world’s population.
Today, Christie can be seen in the most recent Star Wars trilogy which is set to conclude this year. We think she looks totally amazing on the red carpet as she rocks her fashion choice.
Kristian Nairn (Hodor)
Hodor mainly appeared in the first four seasons of Game of Thrones, before returning for season six. It is rumored that Kristian Nairn is reprising his role this season – but of course, we don’t know just yet! In real life, Nairn is a lot more well-kept than his giant character.
Outside of acting, Kristian Nairn is also a rocking DJ. We would love to see Hodor scratching some discs in a nightclub one night! Do you think we will be seeing him one last time?
Nell Williams (Young Cersei Lannister)
Nell Williams appeared in season five to portray a young Cersei Lannister via flashbacks. Interestingly, Williams was so young during filming that she admits to never having seen the show beforehand! Apparently, she tried to read the books but they were too long!
Today, Nell Williams is continuing her acting efforts and takes great pride in being a part of showing who Cersei is as a person. Did you like her performance as a young Lannister?
John Bradley-West (Samwell Tarly)
Samwell Tarly is a fan favorite among audiences and portrayed amazingly by John Bradley-West. His light-hearted character is perhaps one of the reasons why he has lasted so long. Who wants to kill a nice guy?
Outside the show, Bradley-West is nowhere near as shy or clumsy as his TV counterpart. To date, he has appeared in shows like Borgia, Merlin, and the British (and original!) version of Shameless. What do you think will happen to the character?
Tara Fitzgerald (Selyse Baratheon)
Tara Fitzgerald was somewhat of a late addition to the Game of Thrones cast joining in the third season. She plays Selyse Baratheon and has captivated audiences for years. Before that, she could be seen in shows like The Walking Dead and The Camomile Lawn.
When speaking about interactions with fans, Fitzgerald said: “It was one of those amazing sweet moments that I didn’t expect to be having at this stage in my life.” Do you like her role on the show?
Richard Madden (Robb Stark)
Before becoming a worldwide sensation on The Bodyguard, Richard Maddern wowed audiences in the first three seasons of Game of Thrones. After bowing out, Maddern continued to act in many great TV and film productions.
Aside from a bit of grooming, Richard Madden looks pretty similar to Robb Stark – his character counterpart. Maddern can next be seen in Netflix’s Ibiza, starring opposite Idris Elba. Will you be checking out this new film? It will be nice to have him on our screen again!
Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei)
British Actress Nathalie Emmanuel got her big break when she was cast in the popular soap opera Hollyoaks. After a few years, Emmanuel joined Game of Thrones in its third season as the loved character Missandei. By season five, she was promoted to a main cast member and fans have loved her ever since.
In real life, Nathalie Emmanuel is absolutely gorgeous as she walks along the red carpet at premiers of films like The Fate of the Furious. Even after the show ends, we know Emmanuel will have a strong career ahead of her.
Sahara Knite (Armeca)
Sahara Knite – real name Saeeda Vorajee – is a British actress and model. She has also appeared in quite a few adult films, making her the perfect addition to Game of Thrones. In 2010, Knite joined the cast to play Armeca.
Her character was supposed to only be a guest role in the first season, but she was proven to be popular among fans and was brought back for season two. As audience members might know, she’s pretty comfortable playing this kind of role.
Aimee Richardson (Myrcella)
This Northern Irish actress rose to fame after her performance in the 2008 Rom-Com Miss Conception. Three years later, she joined the HBO show as Myrcella. Unfortunately for her, she only lasted two seasons before the character was exiled.
Since departing the show, fans have seen Richardson in The Sparticle Mystery and My Mother And Other Strangers. Who knows what the young actress will do in the next few years? Either way, we look forward to seeing her in future projects.
Keisha Castle-Hughes (Obara Sand)
Even if you haven’t watched Game of Thrones, there’s a chance you’ve heard of Keisha Castle-Hughes. The Australian-born New Zealander has been on the show since season five but has been acting for many years.
Fans of Star Wars will recognize her in Revenge of the Sith, as well as a brief appearance in AMC’s The Walking Dead. With her first Oscar nomination at the age of 13, we have no doubt they’ll be plenty more in the future.
Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont)
This Scottish actor has been playing Jorah Mormont for all eight seasons – something that even surprises the actor sometimes! Iain Glen has admitted to always thinking he will get killed off – much like many of his co-stars.
Luckily, we will get to see just what happens to Jorah by the time the show ends. Outside of Game of Thrones, the actor has also appeared in Downton Abbey where he played Richard Carlisle. Will you miss him on your screen?
